Patient 1: This patient fractured his pinky and is experiencing swelling, tingling, and discomfort. The hand was put in a cast while the bone healed and the patient was sent to therapy afterwards to regain mobilization in the pinky. The pinky is having trouble straightening out completley and thus is given many strengtheing exercises after heat and ultra-sound.

A therapist has to decide what is best for the patient. When looking at a window of mobilization in the wrist for example, it is more important for the patient to be able to bend the wrist up then bend it down in order to used the wrist for support and strength. In a finger however, being able to grasp something is very important so closing the fist in the number one priority right away.
