The phonograph was a marvel for its time. Today it is still studied by music aficionado’s and tone purists. The simple idea of recording sound has huge implications and many uses, but the simplest use is also the most popular, listening to recorded music. Before the internet and downloading music there were tapes and CD’s. But even before that there was the phonograph and records. Particular genres owe their success to the advent of the phonograph. Jazz for instance would not be what it is today without the phonograph. If it was not recorded and played across the nation, it would have never become “Americas Music”.
