An Effective Solution to Ocean Pollution

Briannah Purvis

Hammond High School

According to research analyzed by the Algalita Research Vessel based in the middle of the Pacific, 90% of materials in the ocean are that of human wastes and garbage. Plastics, shoes, old toys, fishing nets, tires, trash of all sorts plague even the most unscathed parts of our oceans and beaches, constantly being washed upon our shores. With certain materials inability to break down and disintegrate over time, the trash accumulates within the ocean, killing off marine ecosystems and damaging big business. This session will raise awareness on the severity of ocean pollution, and demonstrate proper and effective steps people can take to reduce ocean pollution, in turn saving our precious, natural wonders.
