so i sent out my college letter on the 4th and got a reply back on the 5th and this is what it said

Stephanie, It is good to hear from you! On behalf of Dr. Qubein, I am responding to your question about the Bush era tax cuts.

My advice is to contact your local congressman or congresswomen and ask them this question making sure that you ask both a republican and a democrat to weigh both sides of the issue.

You will find that generally the issue comes down to the following:

1)      Do you believe that government should be a bigger influence and control in your life or

2)      Do you believe that government should take a smaller roll thus giving more freedom to the people? (Are we a government of the people, for the people, by the people or do we want to be a government of the government? At the far extreme, this becomes a socialist style of government where the government controls everything and takes away all freedoms of the people.)

3)      The more that government grows, taxes the people and adds programs, the less freedom a citizen has

4)      Bush era tax cuts were passed to encourage less growth in government and more dollars in the tax payers’ pockets to spend as they wish

5)      Remember that tax dollars are not the government’s money but the tax payer’s money. So the Bush era tax cuts simply said that the government is taking too much control and taxing the workers at too high a rate, so let’s give the tax payer back more of their own money and let them spend it to stimulate the economy, start or grow businesses and create new jobs

6)      Those for eliminating the tax cuts are for raising taxes and growing the government bigger to try to stimulate the economy. But history shows us that the economy and long term job growth happens best when the tax payers are given an incentive to make a profit, take business risks so they can expand and heir new workers.

Good luck with this project!

Hi my name is Stephanie Jones and I am  currently a Glenelg High School student in my senior year, I am also an accepted student of high point university class of 2015. I  visited high point university on the 18th of September and i was amazed by the campus and by how the teacher wanted to help the students and how great your education system is.  The other reason why I am contacting you is because I am currently enrolled in the Intern/Mentor program at Glenelg high school and in this class we have to create a project and to test it. The area that I will be testing is taxes or to be more general I am working with my mentor to become an accountant and to learn about taxes and other things in accounting. One of are assignment for the year is contact a college and tell them about are research and hopefully they think its interesting and want to learn more about it. Well my project for the year is learning about taxes, the main tax that I’m looking at is the Bush Tax Cuts. I am going to be working with my mentor, Mario Iwanczuk and trying to comprehend and understand what the Bush Tax Cuts are and whether or not they were a good idea. I was hoping if you could give me any idea or suggestions on projects. I hope to hear back from you soon.
